Northern limit of Israel · Today: Tel Dan, Israel
Dan in the Bible
Dan marks the north in the phrase 'from Dan to Beersheba'. Jeroboam sets up his second golden calf here, at a sanctuary beside one of the Jordan's sources.
Archaeology
The Tel Dan stele, found in 1993, refers to the 'house of David' — the earliest known reference to David's dynasty outside the Bible.
