Dead Sea in the Bible

Also called Salt Sea

The Salt Sea marks Judah's eastern border and the desolation left after Sodom. Ezekiel's closing vision has a river from the temple running down to it and making its waters fresh.

Archaeology

The caves at Qumran on its northwestern shore produced the Dead Sea Scrolls, including a complete Isaiah scroll a thousand years older than any previously known Hebrew manuscript.
