Megiddo in the Bible

Megiddo guards the pass on the main highway between Egypt and Mesopotamia, and armies fought over it for millennia. Josiah dies here, and its name lies behind Revelation's Armageddon.

Archaeology

Twenty-six occupation layers, a monumental six-chambered gate, and a water system cut through rock to a spring outside the walls make it one of the most excavated sites in Israel.
