Acts 25 — Scripture text (King James Version)

Now3767 when 5347 was come1910 into the province1885, after3326 three5140 days2250 he ascended305 from575 2542 to1519 2414. Then1161 the high priest749 and2532 the chief4413 of the 2453 informed1718 him846 against2596 3972, and2532 besought3870 him846, And desired154 favour5485 against2596 him846, that3704 he would send for3343 him846 to1519 2419, laying4160 wait1747 in2596 the way3598 to kill337 him846. But3303 3767 5347 answered611, that 3972 should be kept5083 at1722 2542, and1161 that he himself1438 would3195 depart1607 1722 shortly5034 thither. Let them therefore3767, said5346 he, which among1722 you5213 are able1415, go down with4782 me, and accuse2723 this846 man435, if1536 there be2076 any wickedness1536 in1722 him5129. And1161 when he had tarried1304 among1722 them846 more4119 than2228 ten1176 days2250, he went down2597 unto1519 2542; and the next day1887 sitting2523 1909 the judgment seat968 commanded2753 3972 to be brought71. more: or, as some copies read, no more than eight or ten days And1161 when he846 was come3854, the 2453 which came down2597 from575 2414 stood round about4026, and2532 laid5342 many4183 and grievous926 complaints157 against2596 3972, which3739 they could2480 not3756 prove584. While he answered626 for himself846, Neither3754 3777 against1519 3551 of the 2453, neither3777 against1519 the 2411, nor yet3777 against1519 Caesar2541, have I offended264 any thing at all5100. But1161 5347, willing2309 to do2698 the 2453 a pleasure5485, answered611 3972, and said2036, Wilt thou2309 go up305 to1519 2414, and there1563 be judged2919 of4012 these things5130 before1909 me1700? Then1161 said2036 3972, I stand1510 2476 at1909 's2541 judgment seat968, where3757 I3165 ought1163 to be judged2919: to the 2453 have I done91 no3762 wrong91, as5613 2532 thou4771 very 2566 knowest1921. For1063 if1487 3303 I be an offender91, or2532 have committed4238 any thing5100 worthy514 of death2288, I refuse3868 not3756 to die599: but1161 if1487 there be2076 none3762 of these things3739 whereof these3778 accuse2723 me3450, no man3762 may1410 deliver5483 me3165 unto them846. I appeal unto1941 Caesar2541. Then5119 5347, when he had conferred4814 with3326 the council4824, answered611, Hast thou appealed unto1941 Caesar2541? unto1909 Caesar2541 shalt thou go4198. And1161 after1230 certain5100 days2250 king935 67 and2532 Bernice959 came2658 unto1519 2542 to salute782 5347. And1161 when5613 they had been1304 there1563 many4119 days2250, 5347 declared394 's3972 cause2596 unto the king935, saying3004, There is2076 a certain5100 man435 left2641 in bonds1198 by5259 5344: About4012 whom3739, when1096 I3450 was1096 at1519 2414, the chief priests749 and2532 the elders4245 of the 2453 informed1718 me, desiring154 to have judgment1349 against2596 him846. To4314 whom3739 I answered611,3754 It is2076 not3756 the manner1485 of the 4514 to deliver5483 any5100 man444 to1519 die684, before4250 that2228 he which is accused2723 have2192 the accusers2725 face to face2596 4383,5037 and have2983 licence5117 to answer for himself627 concerning4012 the crime laid against him1462. Therefore3767, when they846 were come4905 hither1759, without4160 any3367 delay311 the morrow1836 I sat2523 1909 the judgment seat968, and commanded2753 the man435 to be brought forth71. Against4012 whom3739 when the accusers2725 stood up2476, they brought2018 none3762 accusation156 of such things as3739 I1473 supposed5282: But1161 had2192 certain5100 questions2213 against4314 him846 of4012 their own2398 superstition1175, and2532 of4012 one5100 2424, which was dead2348, whom3739 3972 affirmed5335 to be alive2198. And1161 because I1473 doubted639 of1519 such5127 manner4012 of questions2214, I asked3004 him whether1487 he would1014 go4198 to1519 2419, and there2546 be judged2919 of4012 these matters5130. I doubted: or, I was doubtful how to enquire hereof But1161 when 3972 had appealed1941 to be reserved5083 846 unto1519 the hearing1233 of Augustus4575, I commanded2753 him846 to be kept5083 till2193 3739 I might send3992 him846 to4314 Caesar2541. hearing: or, judgment Then1161 67 said5346 unto4314 5347, I would1014 also2532 hear191 the man444 myself846. To morrow839,1161 said5346 he, thou shalt hear191 him846. And the morrow1887, when3767 67 was come2064, and2532 Bernice959, with3326 great4183 pomp5325, and2532 was entered1525 into1519 the place of hearing201, with4862 5037 the chief captains5506, and2532 principal2596 1851 men435 of5607 the city4172, at2532 '5347 commandment2753 3972 was brought forth71. And2532 5347 said5346, King935 67, and2532 all3956 men435 which3588 are here present4840 with us2254, ye see2334 this man5126, about4012 whom3739 all3956 the multitude4128 of the 2453 have dealt1793 with me3427, both5037 at1722 2414, and2532 also here1759, crying1916 that he ought1163 not3361 to live2198 any longer3371. But1161 when I1473 found2638 that he846 had committed4238 nothing3367 worthy514 of death2288, and2532 1161 that he himself846 hath appealed5127 to1941 Augustus4575, I have determined2919 to send3992 him846. Of4012 whom3739 I have2192 no3756 certain804 thing5100 to write1125 unto my lord2962. Wherefore1352 I have brought4254 him846 forth4254 before1909 you5216, and2532 specially3122 before1909 thee4675, O king935 67, that3704, after examination351 had1096, I might have2192 somewhat5100 to write1125. For1063 it seemeth1380 to me3427 unreasonable249 to send3992 a prisoner1198, and2532 not withal3361 to signify4591 the crimes156 laid against2596 him846.
